For the first time, this book parallels the works of Góngora and Tirso, analyzing their different involvement in the expressive modalities of the Baroque that both interpret and value in a hyperbolic way. With efficiency and originality, the renowned hispanist Laura Dolfi studies the style of Soledades, Panegírico, and Cigarrales, and the artifices of fiction that, in Las firmezas de Isabela and La fingida Arcadia, guide the desenlace, underlining the position of its author with respect to the literary precepts of the time (rejection or acceptance of new art and culteranismo). In addition, Góngora's role as a playwright is valued, and his plays are studied from less accustomed points of view: the dramatic characteristics, the importance of the rhythm that his verses scanned, the diffusion and the possible corruption of the text.

In the early 19th-century, Milan was the most active Italian city in the publishing of books. There, collectors, librarians, scholars of ancient literature and young men of letters were protagonists in an intense activity of publishing classical texts. New editions of Divina Commedia, Petrarch's Rime, Boccaccio's Decameron, Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata and of many works by writers of the 18th century were published in Milan, in particular by Società Tipografica de' Classici Italiani (Italian Classical Writers' Printing Society). In a period rich in cultural and linguistic debates, even discussions on the procedures for publishing texts took on a new importance. By analysing the statements of the editors, investigating their textual choices, following their polemics, Alberto Cadioli, one of the well-known Italian textual bibliography scholars for the modern texts, underlines the importance of the «sana critica», the «sound criticism» - i.e. the philological practice, according to the language of that time - with which classical texts were published in Milan in the first decades of the 19th century. This book, that offers unknown data and a large documentation, reveals theoretical unexpectedly Modern observations and methodological indications, hidden in pages forgotten for many years.

The starting point of this paper is three works of the contemporary Portuguese writer Mário Cláudio - the novels Peregrinação de Barnabé das Índias (1998), Os Naufrágios de Camões (2017) and the play A Ilha de Oriente (1989) -, focusing on how the author rewrites the voyages of Discovery of the 16th century and shapes an image of the East. My aim is to analyse the representation of the so-called Orient and the memory of maritime travels, not only from the point of view of Mário Cláudio's poetics, but also in the light of a collective discourse that is at the same time aesthetic, historical and mythical.
